This was stunning. The thread you weave between food, faith, and affection is seamless; it’s as if each line kneads memory and devotion together into something sacred. I especially loved how you reframed “have you eaten yet?”not as a question of hunger, but as an expression of care, lineage, and quiet love passed through generations.

I vote yes for this piece making it into your manuscript. Very interesting that you connected the hadith about abu dharr and lowering one's wings for our parents. Together, they really give a deeper layer of meaning, new perspective. Beautifully written. Jazakallahu khayr.

Great read btw! It’s seems like your family shares a common love language which is making sure everyone is fed & has eaten…that’s really beautiful mashallah. what really got my attention..so much so that I screamed excitedly at my phone screen “yessss say it louder for the dude bros in the back” 😂 the part you mentioned about brothers who live at home to strive in lessening the burdens of our parents. This is like every sister’s silent dream to have their brothers help around the house not just in chores but engaging with our parents in a way that lessens the burden on us as well. Thanks for sharing 🙏

okay so about the cases: i like to write lowercase for poetry/personal pieces because grammar is a construct and i don't want to overthink. i think especially with poems i would overthink if a new line or a new sentence needed to be caps so i just stopped with the caps altogether. i write with capitals if its forma lol.

now about the actual piece. i really enjoyed all the specific examples you've mentioned. i think especially with parents, when you're a child you literally cannot eat by yourself. you're dependent on your parents to be fed all your meals. they wake up at weird hours to feed you. you don't even know what is food and what is not and will probably poison yourself if not under their watch. you cannot understand words or actions or anything at that time. one of the only ways a parent can love a child is through food. and perhaps its only primitive for them. i enjoyed the story aside in italics, add more to it if you're planning to use it in manuscript.

Salaams! Food is the sixth language of Love ❤️ primarily in countries where it is made by the hands who love you !

In Turkiye you thank the cook or waiter by saying “ May Allah bless your hands “

What a lovely dua! I think i might have written something similar in one of my poems. Food is like breathing almost. It makes up and takes up such a large portion of our lives.

This is so culture heavy, I love it!! Sometimes it’s seen as overbearing but our parents mean well and food really is how they show affection. Alhamdulillah🥹

no wonder you eat just ab anything - context really helps a lot. but jokes aside, this was a nice read. (i’m wondering how on earth you said *i* partly inspired this when you advertised it on your page). may Allah bless our parents, esp our lovely mothers and their beautiful love languages, Ameen. mothers cooking always hits differently

also i’ve been typing in lowercase since i was probably ab 13 or even younger and i used to get mocked for it all the time, until it became a trend. now everyone types in lowercase 😭
